Decay Music (Obscure, 1976)

“Decay Music” by Micheal Nyman released by Brian Eno’s label Obscure. This album is focus on the musical term “decay”, tones extend and/or reduce when an instrument play, such as fingers are putting piano key, and strings of guitar are vibrating.

“1 – 100” is an over 27 minutes length song which is consist of piano backing of a root plus 4th or 5th might be modulated by reverb and delay, played rondomly by 3 to 10 seconds. And the sound swings between left and right stereo position by a mixing console or effect(s). This song almost repeats this pattern only. Piano attacks and decay structured a soundscape or sound environment. This song is a kind of Ambient Music or a true Ambient Music makes a space of sound. A very unique, conceptual and relaxing song.

“Bell Set No.1” is composed by the concept, but the content is far different. This song is consist of repetitions of ethnic bell instruments ring. The sound and its decay are discord. This song construct a mysterious and odd soundscape.

“1 – 100 (Faster Decay)”, track 1, “1 – 100” is made by slow down the tape half speed. This track is the original speed version.

The Piano (Virgin, 1993)

“The Piano” is a motion picture soundtrack for the same title movie and it features piano. But piano pieces on this album re-recording by Micheal Nyman himself. (Original versions in movie, were played by Holly Hunter, lead actress.)

“Big My Secret” is a beautiful, sorrowful also refreshing piano solo piece.

“The Heart Asks Pleasure First” is the representive work of Micheal Nyman. An elegant and sentimental piano piece has combination of Romantic Music, Minimal Music and English Traditional Music.

“The Fling” is happy and joyful minimal piano piece has a mood of traditional music.

“The Scent of Love” is a beautiful and elastic Impressionist piano solo piece.

“The Sacrifice” is a variation of “The Heart Asks Pleasure First” with passionate piano play.

This soundtrack contains elements of Classical Music from Romantic Music to New Age Music, Minimal Music and English Traditional Music. His career from experimental music to authentic classical works and his broad and profound knowledge about music shape into this fine soundtrack.

The Room (Atlantic, 2000)

“The Room” is an Ambient album which features piano and sythesizer pads, describes various rooms.

“The Room of Ancillary Dreams” is based on long tone pad chords, and fragmental piano and pad solos ride on.

“The Room of Oracles” is begins with sacred and mystic pad, fragmental fine wonderful and odd piano improvisation follow.

“The Room of Stairs” is a mystic song begins with glockenspiel passages, atmospheric deep pad chord layers follow.

“The Room of Corners” begins with electric piano or muted piano, then Budd’s iconic piano with no effects improvisation follow.

“The Room Alight” is consist of reverb and chorus modulated piano and sythesizer, and mystic also bright composition like Ambient works with Brian Eno.

“The Room of Mirrors” is a very melancholic and sorrowful composition. It based on low tone electric piano backing, fragmental improvisational glockenspiel, piano and synthesizer solos ride on it.

“The Room of Forgotten Children” is a piano solo piece of Budd’s iconic floating and mystic improvisation.

“The Room of Accidental Geometry” is an apathetic few tones piano and synthesizer lead improvisational touches.

“The Room of Secondary Light” is a sorrowful song with twinkle modulated electric piano and beautiful pad like a mist.

“The Flowered Room” begins with EP 4-beat walking base and synthesizer backings, then fragmental electric piano solos follow.

“The Room” is melancholic minimal piano solo piece like Philip Glass and Micheal Nyman.

A very good Ambient and New Age album. There are full of Budd’s unique style and plays.

La Bella Vista (Shout! Factory, 2003)

“La Bella Vista” is a rare piano solo album by Harold Budd. All tracks is the recordings of his iconic floating and mystic piano improvisations.

“Campanile” is an arpeggio based neutral and apathetic piano piece.

“The Rose” is a more dynamic and fragmental and sorrowful piano improvisation.

“Stones” is a mystic and abstract piano improvisation.

“Her Face” is a low tone accompaniment based mystic and melancholic piano piece.

“Children’s Games Beyond Our Reach” is a more fragmental and abstract piano improvisation.

“The Avenue” is a swinging chord backing based neutral and tasteless abstract piano improvisation.

“Bird Charmer” is a mystic and oriental mood ambiguous improvisation of harder piano touches.

“Other Flowers” is an abstract and free but dynamic piano improvisation.

“Il Leopardo Delle Nevi” is an over 10 minutes grand work in this album, this song is an abstract and ambiguous improvisation, also is constructed by flexible repetitions of phrases and passages.

Very unique style and taste piano solo album. His mystic, apathetic, wonderful, floating and flowing piano play style has elements of Contemporary Classic and Jazz, is one and only.

Recensione musica | Opere di Anne Müller

Heliopause (Erased Tapes, 2019)

“Being Anne” è un brano drone astratto per mezzo di archi, percussioni e rumori significativi.

“Solo? Repeat!” è una canzone composta dal violoncello di Müller e da un ensemble di archi. In questo brano di meraviglia si possono vedere vaghe improvvisazioni e anche una composizione minimale di ripetizioni di frasi.

“Nummer 2” è musica minimale di un ensemble di archi che associa la musica di Steve Reich.

“Aarhus / Reminiscences” è un brano Drone Ambient nella prima parte. La parte successiva è musica sentimentale post-classica con pianoforte e violoncello.

“Drifting Circules” è una raffinata e ortodossa musica minimale con un ensemble di archi. Nella parte successiva i cori seguono e diventano un’atmosfera luminosa e dinamica.

“Heliopause” è una composizione sacra di gusto greco con elementi di Ambient, suonata da un ensemble di archi e i suoi riflessi con rumori di orologio e assoli di sintetizzatori dai toni alti.

Un bel lavoro post-classico del violoncellista, con elementi di Minimal Music e Drone Ambient.

“7fingers” è l’album di collaborazioni con Nils Frahm. Questo album presenta vari stili di musica post-classica, elettronica e classica sperimentale.

“Teeth” è composto da improvvisazioni di violoncello di Müller e pad di sintetizzatore di Frahm.

“7fingers” è un’elettronica ad alta velocità con loop di percussioni elettroniche e assolo di violoncello di Müller. Nella parte successiva, segue un bellissimo pad di Frahm.

“Let My Key Be C” è musica minimale con ripetizioni di frasi di archi e assoli di violoncello, come Steve Reich e Philip Glass. Nella parte successiva, seguono basso elettrico e glockenspiel.

“Show Your Teeth” è un’elettronica percussiva con malinconici assoli di violoncello.

“Journey for Traveller” è un’elettronica composta da loop di percussioni elettroniche, sequenze di sintetizzatori e pad. Gli assoli improvvisati di violoncello lo accompagnano.

“Reminds to Teeth” è un post-classico bello e sentimentale con arpeggi di pianoforte, assoli di violoncello modulati dal riverbero e rumori elettronici.

“Duktus” è un’elettronica dall’atmosfera sentimentale, con percussioni oscillanti, pianoforte elettrico o sequenze di sintetizzatori. Seguono ensemble di archi e assoli di violoncello.

“Long Enough” è una fresca canzone elettronica con voce femminile e ensemble di archi.

“Aussenseiter” è una canzone folk e classica con violoncello e archi, la cui parte finale è modificata dall’elettronica.
