Trios / Solos by (with Glen Moore, ECM, 1973)

“Trios / Solos” is the debut album of Ralph Towner, as the title this album is consist of. This album features bass player Glen Moore, and tabla player Colin Walcott (track 1) and oboe player Paul McCandless (3 & 8).

“Brujo” is a Latin taste improvisation track by the trio.

“Winter Light” is a solitary mood guitar solo track.

“Noctuary” is a strange, abstract and keen improvisational track by guitar, oboe and contrabass includes bow playing.

“1 × 12” is a skilful and contemporary mood guitar solo track. Towner uses harmonics, body tapping and noises by hard plucks.

“A Belt of Asteroids” is a bass solo improvisation by Glen Moore.

“Suite: 3 × 12 I” is a contemporary also Jazz taste improvisational tracks by solo of Towner. “II” is a Country taste skilful and hard guitar improvisation track. Also “III” is Blues mood hard and technical guitar solo improvisation track.

“Raven’s Wood” is a Folk, New Age and Jazz taste song by the trio features a passionate oboe play and guitar arpeggio.

Characteristic of this album is “freely improvisation”, but it’s not avant-garde and wild like Free Jazz. It’s an urban and contemporary taste sophisticated acoustic Fusion album is similar to John Zorn in the 80’s.

Diary (ECM, 1973)

“Diary” is the solo debut album of Ralph Towner released in 1973. Towner played guitar, 12 strings guitar, piano and percussions and tracks recorded by dubbing(s) of multi-tracks.

“Dark Spirit” is a modern taste and neutral and vague mood, skilful and freely piano and guitar improvisations.

“Entry in a Diary” is a modern also Folk taste guitar solo improvisational song.

“Image Unseen” is a hard improvisational song with a passionate play, harmonics, had plucks and some noises by guitar.

“Icarus” is a famous song of the Paul Winter Consort, composed by Ralph Towner. On this recording the song played by passionate guitar and piano with contemporary transparent mood.

A New Age taste acoustic Jazz Fusion album has the surprisingly contemporary, urban sophisticated and parched mood in that time.

Calling (Living Music, 1980)

“Lullaby from the Great Mother Whale for the Baby Seal Pups” is a calm and non rhythm song song is consist of Winter’s soprano saxophone solo associates guitar backing, pad chord and murmurs of a whales.

“Magdalena” is a Bossa Nova taste Fusion features Winter’s smooth soprano saxophone solo improvisation.

“Love Swim” is a New Age taste sweet instruments Ballad.

“Blues’ Cathedral” is a New Age meditation song with a vague saxophone improvisation and pad chord accompaniment

“Sea Wolf” is a Folk taste New Age song. It begins Sea Wolf’s murmurs, then guitar arpeggio, pad chord and saxophone solo follow.

A good sophisticated New Age album.

“Sun Singer” is a track only by Winter’s solo.

“Hymn to the Sun” is the cover song of J. S. Bach, which is a very refreshing and bit sentimental arraignment with Winter’s soprano saxophone solo and piano arpeggio. The best song of this album.

“Dolphin Morning” is a dreamy and gentle New Age song with Winter’s brave solo, fine piano arpeggio and synthesizer pad chord backing.

“Reflections In A Summer Pond” is a sorrowful song features Winter’s solo and the mood and the composition associate “A Remark You Made” by the Wether Report. The later part “Dancing Particles” is a melancholic also passionate mood song.

“Winter’s Dream” is a Pop Ballad taste gentle Fusion song features Winter’s smooth solo.

“Heaven Within” is a calm and sacred mood slow beautiful song. Winter’s saxophone solo melody and play are excellent.

“Sun Singer” is a gentle and passionate also sentimental song with the impressive theme. Winter’s play is beautiful and brilliant.

Almost songs are consist of saxophone(s), piano and synthesizer pad only but, so Winter’s New Age sense and gentleness appeared on thins album. One of the greatest album of Paul Winter.

Canyon (Living Music, 1985)

This album was recorded in a small side canyon located in the Grand Canyon, and make use of the natural environmental reverb and soundscape.

“Grand Canyon Sunrise” it begins with ethnic percussion loop. Later part, refreshing Winter’s soprano saxophone solo and pad chord accompaniment taka part in.

“Morning Echoes” is consist of beautiful Winter’s soprano saxophone dubbing like a call and response, with sample(s) of bird(s) singing(s).

“Bright Angel” is an elegant, refreshing and natural Fusion song with soprano saxophone, piano and percussions.

“River Run” is a brave and joyful song ethnic taste Fusion, which praises the greatness of the Nature.

“Elves Chasm” is a song consist of only Winter’s skilful and energy improvisation and sample of water drops.

“Air” is a “Aria” of Bach played only by Winter’s soprano solo with environmental sound of the Grand Canyon.

“Grand Canyon Sunset”, it begins with low tone rhythm machine percussion(s) loop, then passionate Winter’s alto and soprano solos and pad chord accompaniment follow and cross them.

A New Age meditation album by great and unique Jazz musician. There are love and praise for the Nature and God.

“Tomorrow Is My Dancing Day” is an English traditional song, and Folk Dance taste refreshing Fusion features a joyful arrangement and Winter’s dynamic solo improvisation.

“Swedish Song” is a bright and smooth Ballad song features string ensemble and Winter’s solo.

“The Cherry Tree” is an Appalachian traditional song, a nostalgic and traditional taste song with a contemporary dynamic arrangement.

“Little One” is an Appalachian traditional song and Folk taste song with harmony and soprano saxophone like singing.

“Peasant Revels” is a German and English traditional song like a cornemuse song by soprano saxophone, string ensemble and piano.

“Dance Of The Golden Bough” is an Italian traditional song, a sentimental song like “Green Sleeves”.

“Icarus” is the fourth album of Paul Winter Consort from Epic Records. The members include David Darling, Ralph Towner, Collin Walcott, Billy Cobham and so on. They are unique musicians own New Age and contemporary characteristics.

“Icarus” is a famous song of the Paul Winter Consort and one of main repertory of Paul Winter, composed by Ralph Towner. The song is bright and refreshing taste associates a sunshine and a beach, features Winter’s soprano saxophone and David Darling’s cello solos.

“The Silence of Candle” is a sentimental vocal Pop song.

“Sunwheel” is nostalgic and bright Fusion song with a gorgeous arrangement, has elements of Rock, features Clavinet solo and Latin percussions.

An American counter culture and New Age taste Jazz Fusion album. The music is based on Jazz, but there’s no smoky mood of Jazz. The mood and taste of this album can’t be defined easily. It’s unique music that Jazz isn’t a Jazz, and New Age music is not only a New Age music. This is the music of nowhere and somewhere.
